Without a pelmet, hot air rises to the top of the curtain, touches the cold glass of the window, causing the hot air to cool down. This cooled air then enters the room, making the room feel colder. Pelmets prevent hot air from touching the cold glass in the first place, making your curtains much more effective.
How do you make a pelmet window?
- Step 1: Measuring for Size. Measure your window where you would like the pelmet to sit.
- Step 2: Cut Foam Core/Plywood. Now it is time to begin cutting the foam core which will form the structure of your curtain pelmet.
- Step 3: Cover with Quilt Batting.
- Step 4: Cover with Fabric.
- Step 5: Fit to the Wall.
