There are many different types of plastics that are used in vacuum forming and these are some of the more common ones:

What material would be suitable to make a vacuum forming Mould?
Suitable materials for use in vacuum forming are conventionally thermoplastics. The most common and easiest to use thermoplastic is high impact polystyrene sheeting (HIPS). This is molded around a wood, structural foam or cast or machined aluminium mold, and can form to almost any shape.

How to build a vacuum table?
To build a vacuum table, you’ll need some wood, some MDF, screws, glue, and a means of drilling hundreds of small holes. You can use a hand held drill, or set up your CNC router to perform the task for you. I try to use MDF as infrequently as possible because I’m allergic to it.
What size vacuum table do I need for my CNC machine?

I have a wooden frame to hold the material to be vacuum formed, and a wooden box with holes on the top to act as the vacuum forming bed. It was cheap to build and works really well.
