The journey from Paignton to Kingswear is almost 7 miles long and starts from Queen’s Park station, which is right next door to the mainline station, and even though it’s clearly marked, people come to the wrong one all day, every day. I don’t know where the Great Western Railway staff get their patience from!

As we were staying at Greenway Lodge NT we decided a local tour of the area would be good. So a trip on the steam railway to Paignton via Kingswear Station, great trip and walk around Paignton with a F&C lunch.

The train ride from Paignton is a gentle trip with stunning views. Arriving in Kingswear you can almost imagine how people in days gone by must have felt. A short ferry ride takes you into Dartmouth which is a stunning little town. The whole day was fabulous with great weather and steam trains.
How long is the train journey from Paignton to Dartmouth?
The train journey is about 25 minutes long and then the short ferry trip to Dartmouth itself a further 10 minutes. You can either turn straight around and go back but I would recommend walking around Dartmouth before returning Paignton.
