How do you perform an echocardiogram?
A technician (sonographer) spreads gel on a device (transducer). The sonographer presses the transducer firmly against your skin, aiming an ultrasound beam through your chest to your heart. The transducer records the sound wave echoes from your heart. A computer converts the echoes into moving images on a monitor.

How is Lvot echo measured?
Measure the LVOT diameter (Parasternal long axis, 2D). Zoom in to be accurate. Measure up to 0.5cm back from the aortic valve leaflet insertion points (on the ventricular side). Using pulse wave Doppler (PW) line up the LVOT in the apical views, using either the apical 5 chamber or the apical 3 chamber.

How many minutes is 2-D echo?
You need not worry as the process takes only 30 mins to 1 hour, is safe, and is done under the supervision of a radiologist and a cardiologist. You will receive the test images printed on paper or recorded on DVD. So, your physician can interpret the results for any abnormalities or developing disease.
