Is the UCR a primary source?

How do you check out a book on UCR?
You can check out materials at circulation/reserves desks with your valid library card. Loan periods vary by item and by card holder status, so be sure to check your borrowing privileges. You are responsible for all items checked out on your card and should not loan borrowed materials to any other person.

How does the UCR collect data?
Crime statistics are compiled from UCR data and published annually by the FBI in the Crime in the United States series. The FBI does not collect the data itself. Rather, law enforcement agencies across the United States provide the data to the FBI, which then compiles the Reports.
What is the purpose of UCR?
The program’s primary objective is to generate a reliable set of criminal statistics for use in law enforcement administration, operation, and management; however, over the years, its data have become one of the country’s leading social indicators.

The FBI’s Crime Data Explorer (CDE) is the digital front door for UCR data. The interactive online tool enables law enforcement and the public to more easily use and understand the massive amounts of UCR data currently collected.

UCR which stands for “UNIFIED CARRIER REGISTRATION” is a program that requires individuals or companies that operate commercial motor vehicles in interstate or international commerce to register their business with a participating state and pay an annual fee based on the size of their fleet.

The fees acquired by UCR are used by the states to support its safety programs and USDOT officer training. This program was created in 2007 and replaced the old Single-State Registration System (SSRS), which in turn replaced the Bingo-Stamp Program.
