How does Smart Train work?
SMART provides rail transit service that is accessible to passengers with disabilities. SMART’s platforms and trains are fully compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Clipper Card vending machines on SMART platforms are also ADA compliant. SMART trains have ADA accessible restrooms and seating.
Is the Smart Train Electric?
SMART operates a fleet of state-of-the-art diesel trains assembled in Rochelle, Illinois by Sumitomo Corporation of Americas. SMART trains are top-tier in the industry for safety, green technology, accessibility, and passenger comfort.

Can I bring my bike on the SMART train?
Bikes are welcome onboard SMART trains. Each two-car train has spaces for up to 24 bikes. Conductors are available on the train to assist riders with storing and securing bikes on the train. SMART stations have two options for bike parking: secured bike lockers and U-racks.
Are dogs allowed on SMART train?
Are pets allowed on trains? Small pets are allowed on board SMART, but they must be kept in an enclosed container/carrier, with the exception of service animals.

As of April 19th, Brightline teammates and guests are no longer required to wear masks while onboard or in our stations.
Does VRE have bathrooms?
We attempt to place bathrooms on board the train so that riders never have to walk more than 2 or 3 cars. Unfortunately, we cannot always guarantee where the exact placement of a car with a restroom will be since cars often get switched out for maintenance.
Are folding bikes allowed on buses?
Am I allowed to bring non-foldable PMDs or bicycles on board public transport? Yes, these devices are allowed on board trains and buses as long as they do not exceed the allowable size dimensions of 120cm by 70cm by 40cm, and do not cause any inconvenience to other commuters.
Does the SMART train serve alcohol?
Every purchase helps local people with developmental disabilities become successful members of our workforce. BI Buzz offers coffee, tea and locally sourced beer and wine. SMART’s onboard concessionaire also serves pasteries, oatmeal, and other savory snacks.
What time does the SMART train run?
The SMART trains offer a smooth, quiet ride. Visit the SMART website for more information about fares and how to pay. Trains run from shortly after 4 a.m. to about 10 p.m.; check the online schedule for details. All this makes for the perfect way to explore central Sonoma County sans automobile.
Can you bring your own food on Brightline?
You are also allowed to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks onboard. Another pleasant surprise was the bathroom.
