Once I tried Auto-tune, and it comparatively does a far better job even at high pitch correction settings. Even controlled via midi, it sounds bad… Newtone is far better, but introduces unnatural resonances in sounds you pitch correct. In non-vocal sounds it’s usually ok, but on vocals, it makes them sound bad.
