Yes, you may tribute face-down monsters for a Ritual summon; their level will become known when sent to the Graveyard. You may also tribute a face-down monster of your opponent using “Soul Exchange”, but beware you may/will need to make up the difference in level from your Field or Hand to perform the ritual summon.
Can you tribute a higher level monster for a lower level monster?
This means you cannot Normal Summon or Set a low Level monster and then Tribute it immediately to Tribute Summon a high Level monster. Tributing a monster for a Tribute Summon is not considered a Cost.
