Age UK East London provides trained advocates to support older people in expressing choices about matters affecting their everyday lives.
What do home helps do?
The Home Support Service helps older people to continue living in their own homes for as long as possible. For example, it can provide support with everyday tasks such as getting in and out of bed, bathing and dressing. A person’s individual needs are assessed to decide what supports they need.
What can a social worker do for the elderly?
Gerontological social workers provide counseling and therapy to clients to help them cope with the psychological, emotional, social and financial challenges that come with aging. They also provide therapy and advise clients’ families and loved ones as necessary.
What is an independent advocate?
Independent advocates help people to get the information they need to make real choices about their circumstances and support the person/group to put their choices across to others. An independent advocate may speak on behalf of people who are unable to do so for themselves.
Do home carers do housework?
A live-in carer will take care of a variety of tasks for your loved one, from dusting and polishing to vacuuming and doing the washing up, or loading the dishwasher. By completing these tasks, your loved one can focus on investing more of their time into their favourite hobbies.

Advocacy HOPE – Helping others participate and engage HOPE is a partnership project between Age Cymru, Age Cymru local partners and Age Connects Wales partners throughout Wales. HOPE will deliver independent advocacy for older people (50+) and carers across Wales.
What does Age Cymru do for older people?
Age Cymru | We are the national charity for older people in Wales. Winter will soon be upon us which, for many, is a worrying time. Our Spread the Warmth campaign raises awareness of the health risks that cold weather and a drop in temperature can have on older people.
Is it too late to volunteer for Age Cymru?
It’s never too late to get more active. Age Cymru believes loneliness and isolation should be recognised and treated as a public health priority. Every donation is truly valued as it really makes a difference to us continuing our work with and for older people. Our volunteers give hundreds of thousands of hours of support every year.
