What does a PhosBan reactor 150 do?
The PhosBan Reactor 150 is designed to push water upwards from the bottom and through the media. This forces an even distribution of water throughout the media and prevents channeling from occurring. This is also great for fluidizing media such as GFO where the filter media needs to tumble gently and evenly.
What does a PhosBan reactor do?
The PhosBan Reactor is designed with the upflow principle to achieve the most efficient use of PhosBan or other chemical filter media. By pushing water from the bottom upward through a dispersion plate, it forces an even distribution of water through the media, and prevents channeling.
How long does Gfo last in a reactor?
4-8 weeks
GFO will typically last 4-8 weeks under normal tank conditions but this could be much sooner for a situation where phosphates are elevated.
When should I change my Gfo?
Change GFO when phosphate levels begin to rise. This is generally every 4 weeks for standard GFO and closer to 8 weeks for High Capacity GFO.
How does a media reactor work?
A media reactor is an aquarium filtration device that contains filter media. It helps to increase the effectiveness of the filter media inside by forcing all water that enters the reactor to come in contact with the media.
Does Gfo remove algae?
GFO, which stands for Granular Ferric Oxide, is a red brown powder that is compacted into granules. The purpose of granular ferric oxide is to inhibit algae growth by removing phosphates from the aquarium. Maintaining low phosphate levels will help prevent algae outbreaks and control growth.
Does Gfo lower alkalinity?
Active Member. The chemicals in GFO induce calcium to combine with carbonate to form solid calcium carbonate, which reduces alk and calcium in the water.
Should I run Gfo all the time?
Every time you notice high phosphates and replace your used up GFO with fresh media, you will spike down the nutrient level- instability. If you dont need it, I wouldn’t suggest using it consistently.
Can you use too much Gfo?
Yes absolutely! You should monitor your po4 levels and use enough to keep your po4 in check but not much more. If too much is used it can be too aggressive at nutrient removal and cause necrosis – ususally on SPS. It’s also costly, so using more than is needed is not cost effective nor is it going to benefit.
Does Gfo get rid of algae?
Does Gfo lower PH?
Not uncommon for PH to drop with the use of GFO. Especially in smaller tanks or when large quantities are used. Sometimes using less the recommended amount is required.
How fast will Gfo reduce phosphates?
BRS High-Capacity GFO: High-density, long-lasting, lower-maintenance phosphate removal. (16 tbsp = 1 cup). After 4-8 weeks the aquarium will have adjusted to the low nutrient level and the amount of GFO can be increased up to 2 tablespoons per 8 gallons of water.
Where do you put a Gfo reactor?
Valuable Member. I prefer putting it in the return compartment with a dedicated pump. The reason is I try to take as much phosphates before using the GFO. The skimmer, biopellets (I know that it will take more nitrates) & the fuge will make their work then the GFO will take out the excess.
