The UK Foundation Programme Office manages the national application process for the foundation programme. The UKFPO also issues guidance on foundation training and promotes the consistent delivery of the foundation programme across the UK.

There is no age limit to apply for the Foundation Programme. Provided you meet all the eligibility criteria, you can apply at any age. If there is a gap of more than 2 years between when you graduated and the start of FY1 on 5th August 2021, then you will be required to sit the Clinical Assessment.
Do you get paid for foundation training UK?
Foundation training is paid employment and takes place in foundation schools, which are based in hospital Trusts. During the application stage, candidates will rank foundation schools according to where they would prefer to work for the two years following graduation.

Once a doctor accepts a post on a training programme the deanery allocates specific jobs, arranges educational supervision and provides the assessment of whether the doctors in training have demonstrated sufficient progress.

Foundation schools are made up of a group of hospitals in a certain region that join together to form a ‘school’ and offer junior doctors training and experience. There are currently 20 of them in the UK, and they’re broken down to deaneries such as East Anglia or Essex-Bedfordshire-Hertfordshire.

While the ratio could return to 0.8 next year, it is likely you will still get a place if you rank this deanery as your first preference.

The UKFP Map/Foundation Programme Deaneries map allows UK medical graduates and international medical graduates (IMGs) to see all hospitals that Foundation Year doctors are placed at during F1 and F2. Hospitals are organised by Foundation Schools/Deaneries.
