Are all Canon lens caps the same?
The rear cap for lenses made for EOS SLRs are all the same. Whether for EF, EF-S, TS-E, MP-E, tele-extender, extention tube, or Sigma/Tamron/Tokina.
Will any lens cap fit?
No. Lens caps are not universal, although many are interchangeable. For most lenses with a thread and no built-in hood, all you need to know is the thread-size and you can buy a cap of the same type and diameter.

What are lens caps called?
A lens cover or lens cap provides protection from scratches and minor collisions for camera and camcorder lenses. Lens covers come standard with most cameras and lenses.
How do I know my lens size?
It’s measured in millimeters, just like a camera’s focal length, and can be found next to the ø symbol, which represents diameter. The lens diameter is more often than not on the front of the camera lens, or engraved on the side near the top, where you’d screw on your lens filter.
Is lens cap necessary?
Yes, you do need a lens cap. Even if you keep your camera in a bag. Dust, sand, grit and goodness knows what else is in that bag. You scratch that lens – you might as well replace the camera.
Do lens hoods work?
Lens hoods don’t only help prevent large spots of lens flare and discoloration. They also improve the overall contrast and colors in a photo. Personally, this is why I almost always use lens hoods (more on the “almost” below). Used properly, they never hurt your image quality.
