Are picnics allowed at Kirstenbosch?
Picnics are allowed in Kirstenbosch, but you are not permitted to take chairs, tables, umbrellas, tents etc. into the Garden. Braais / barbecues are not allowed. Picnic hampers and/or takeaways are available from the Kirstenbosch Tea Room and Moyo restaurant.
Is Kirstenbosch Gardens safe?
Muggings and attacks on Table Mountain have increased in recent years. Even though the Kirstenbosch and Table Mountain National Park security are constantly on patrol, and have apprehended culprits, it is not advisable to walk alone or in small groups. Also, do not carry large amounts of money or valuables with you.
Can you play music at Kirstenbosch?
Absolutely. Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts are great for the whole family. If the children aren’t dancing to the music or feasting away at the picnic basket, the Kids’ Zone is available.
Can I take my own food into Kirstenbosch?
Yes, we allow picnics in the Garden. You are welcome to bring your own food, or get a picnic hamper from the Kirstenbosch Tea Room or Moyo Restaurant. Picnic blankets are welcome, but we don’t allow garden furniture.

You can definitely bring alcohol into the concerts at Kirstenbosch. Most people also bring picnics, lawn blankets, etc. (Skip chairs that would block others views, that’s not permitted.). The food/drink/socializing pre-concert seemed as much a part of the shows we saw as did the music.
