How Is a Broken Finger Treated? Temporary splinting, ice, and pain control are helpful supportive treatments. Make a splint to immobilize your finger even if that means putting a popsicle stick or pen next to it and wrapping something around the stick and your finger. Don’t wrap so tight you cut off circulation.
Can you fix mangled fingers?
Treatments usually include splints or surgery, for more severe fractures. Broken fingers generally heal well after treatment and rehabilitation.

A splint or cast ensures that the thumb is in the right place to heal correctly. A doctor may be able to correct breaks closer to the end of the thumb through external manipulation. This involves putting pressure on the thumb until the injured bones go back into place. Surgery is not usually required in this case.

You will likely have one 2-3 cm surgical incision on the inside of your thumb near your webspace. Ligament repairs can be painful. You will receive a prescription for narcotic pain medicine. For the first 2-3 days, take the pain medication around the clock to stay on top of the pain control.
