How long does PECS training take?
This intensive 13-hour interactive workshop is designed to teach educational and caregiver teams the theory and protocol for the Picture Exchange Communication System® (PECS®), an evidence-based practice based on Applied Behaviour Analysis, typical language development, and B.F. Skinner’s Verbal Behaviour.
What should be included in a PECS board?
PECS will typically start with pictures of desired objects like food, places, and familiar people. Over time, sentence strips are added. For example, a picture of a chocolate chip cookie that reads below, “I want cookies.” For some students, these boards eventually transition from pictures to words.
Can you use photos for pecs?
The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) system (i.e. a communication method other than speech) that involves the physical exchange of pictures to communicate with another person for the purpose of requesting or commenting.
What size should pecs pictures be?

Once cut apart, each picture measures 1 ¾” x 1 ¾ ” and can be used in large or small PECS Communication Books.
Who can teach PECS?
Almost anyone can implement PECs, however they need to receive PECS training. Professionals, parents, carers, teachers, siblings and peers have all learnt to effectively use PECS and value their role as a Communication Partner. What size should PECS pictures be?
The Standard PECS Communication (previously known as large) Book is a 260mm x 235mm 3-ring binder and is the recommended communication book for all PECS users. This book is perfect for students who use 45mm x 45mm pictures to communicate.
What is a makaton sheet?
It is a language programme that combine signs, symbols and speech to give different options for people to communicate. Using signs can help people who do not user speech. Symbols can help people who have limited speech, or who cannot or prefer not to sign.
