Can you use lime plaster outside?
Exterior – Pay attention to the weather. Strong sun, wind, frost and rain will all affect the performance of lime render. Try to protect work from direct or wind-driven rain, and where necessary use hessian sheets to stop the work drying out too quickly from wind or strong sun.
Is lime render waterproof?
Lime delivers its hardness and its waterproofing qualities through a process called carbonation.
Can you use lime mortar in the rain?
Using Hydraulic Lime Mortar in Winter Protection must be given against rain, drying winds, snow and in particular frost.
Can you use Dulux Weathershield on lime render?
Yes, Weathershield products are micro-porous and breathable, allowing moisture and air to be released. However, they aren’t suitable for lime render (please see below).
Should lime plaster be painted?
Lime plaster will help improve indoor air quality and prevent the build up of moulds or dampness in your walls. Our natural emulsion is the perfect choice of paint to use on lime plaster. Natural emulsion is more opaque than clay paint and so the coverage is better and the surface is more durable.
Does lime plaster need special paint?
Breathable paint for lime plaster (Interior lime walls) Lime plaster walls need to breathe! Using a conventional vinyl emulsion paint would typically seal the walls which could damage the structure and cause the paint to come off, so using a good quality breathable paint is very important.
What is the difference between lime mortar and lime plaster?
Whilst lime mortar is predominantly a building material, used to bind together masonry, lime plasters and renders need to be spreadable and may therefore contain more water and a finer aggregate.
Can you paint directly onto lime plaster?

Can you plaster cob walls?
Cob and earth walls often have a friable surface which needs to be prepared before render or plaster can be applied. The wall surface should be dampened down on the day before application.
