Can a gas ball valve be used for water?
It could be used for water, but it is unprotected steel and will corrode. That is why water pipe and fittings are usually galvanized or made of corrosion resistant materials like copper and brass.
Can you install a ball valve backwards?
The valve stem orientation is not critical, however any deviation from vertical is a compromise. Installation upside down is not recommended because it can cause dirt to accumulate by the stem packing. The best practice is to install with the valve stem facing upwards whenever possible.
What is the difference between L port and T port?
There are two types of 3-way ball valves: L-Port and T-Port. An L-Port can send flow one way or the other or can shut it off completely. A T-Port will perform all the same flow tasks as an L-Port but cannot be shut off. In addition, the T-Port can mix flows by sending or receiving flow to/from both ways of the Tee.

What is TSO in valve?
Tight shut off valves with a rubber hose that squeezes closed are designed to fully open and close tightly to ensure zero leakage. These valve types are relatively simpler in terms of design and operation compared to a ball valve for example, allowing for a repeatable and reliable tight shut off operation.
Does flow direction matter in a ball valve?
Ball valves may be installed in vertical or horizontal pipe runs, they are bi-directional therefore flow direction is not critical, however the best practice is to set up the valve handle to point in the direction of flow whenever possible.

Can a ball valve reduce water pressure?
To answer your question; A ball valve only controls flow not pressure. A few seconds after water is flowing a ball valve will limit the pressure based on the flow. A pressure regulator requires no more plumbing than a ball valve. A regulator will limit the maximum pressure but not flow until the set point is reached.
What is a 3-way valve used for?
A 3-way control valve shuts off water flow in one pipe while opening water flow in another pipe. In a modulating or 3-point floating application the valve can also mix water from two different pipes into one pipe or divert water from one pipe into two different pipes.
How does a 3-way valve work?
A 3-way ball valve works by turning the handle, which rotates a ball in the valve body, to align the cut-out channels in the ball with the inlets and outlets of the valve. The “L” shape cut-out of the ball on an L-port valve sends fluid through 90 degrees from one port to another.
