History of The National Library of Wales In 1905 the government promised money in its Budget, and the Privy Council appointed a committee to decide on the location of the two institutions. Aberystwyth was selected as the location of the Library partly because a collection was already available in the College.

NDLI was launched as a new initiative by the MHRD in 2018 as a free source providing access to educational content that has been collated from numerous national and international sources. It is a single-window platform to make education available to anyone and everyone.
How do you request a book at the library doesn’t have?
Go to your library’s website (or library system) and look for a section called “Recommend a title” “Suggest a Title for Purchase” etc. It’s often in the Contact Us tab. If the ebook is available on Overdrive but the library doesn’t own it, you may be able to search on Overdrive and simply press the “Recommend” button.
What do you do when a library doesn’t have a book?
You can also request an InterLibrary Loan, where we borrow the book from another library. It can take two to four weeks for the materials to come in. It is also possible that we will be unable to get the book. To submit a request, print the form and work with a Librarian to fill it out.
Does BorrowBox cost money?
We don’t charge for reserving items on BorrowBox. If you haven’t returned your items by the time they’re due, you’ll no longer have access to them. This means there are no overdue fees. You’ll also have the option to renew your items.
How do I download books from NDL?
Students can download books, study materials, previous years question papers etc. If any school, college want to use this National Digital Library India (NDLI) app officially, then any authority of the institution has to submit Institution’s details on http://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in for Sign up process.

Where do the National Library’s books come from?
Books were first collected for the establishment of a National Library in 1873. The ‘Welsh Library’ was held at the University of Wales, which had just been founded in Aberystwyth. It was at this time that the core of our books collection was also accumulated – the Sir John Williams Collection.

If you would like to view or listen to material from the Catalogue, you will need a valid Library Reader’s Ticket. Please note: as the Archive’s materials are kept under controlled conditions, at least 5 working days notice is required before your visit.
