How do you depower a kite bar?
Here is a sequence you can use to set the optimum trim using the depower adjustment:
- fly the kite hooked in.
- pull the bar all the way in and turn the kite left and right.
- if there is any hint of back stall (kite falls backwards) push the bar out and pull in some depower.
- repeat this until there is no back stall.
Can you use any bar with any kite?
More often than not, you can mix any modern 4-line kite with any 4-line bar.
What does pulling on kite bar do?
Pulling the bar towards you Gives the kite More power. This will shorten the back lines of your kite which then increases the angle of attack. A high angle of attacks means more wind acceleration over the kite, therefore More Lift.

The Safety Depower Line can either be interior or exterior. On my control bar, you cannot see the safety line because it is interior, inside of the Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) center line tubing resulting in a much simpler and cleaner control bar. The rope itself remains protected from wear and tear, sun and salt water damage.
Do I need the 5th line for kite flying?
After activating the quick release the kite flags out on the 5th line without any pressure or pull. Some use the fifth line for easier self landing. Some kites need the 5th line to fly correctly. Set up takes a little longer. After several loops, the 5th line can get twisted around the center lines, which negatively affects safety and performance.
