Is MemTest reliable?
Memtest86+ has not been updated in MANY years. It is NO-WISE as good as regular Memtest86 from Passmark software. If there are ANY errors, at all, then the memory configuration is not stable.
Is one pass of MemTest enough?
“MemTest86+ needs to run for at least 8 passes to be anywhere near conclusive, anything less will not give a complete analysis of the RAM. If you are asked to run MemTest86+ by a Ten Forums member make sure you run the full 8 passes for conclusive results.
How many passes of memtest86 should I do?
To use all possible data patterns 32 passes are required. This test is quite effective at detecting data sensitive errors but the execution time is long.
How long should one run MemTest86?
Prime95 custom blended forcing all but ~2GB RAM usage will tell you CPU, IMC, and memory stability. 6+ hours for “gaming” stable, 12+ hours for “daily stable” and 24+ hours “stable” is what’s generally deemed as acceptible. Unless nobody uses p95 anymore. Could also run memtest overnight instead for just the memory.
Is MemTest86+ worth it?
memtest86+ is nice from a turnkey perspective, just load the bootable usb version on a thumbdrive. But it is not as robust as HCI. I’ve had dimms that would not fail in memtest86+ but would fail in programs, and only HCI memtest would confirm it was the ram that was the issue.
What is the difference between Windows Memory Diagnostic and Memtest86?
Windows Memory Diagnostic defaults to two passes, which is usually enough for hard faults. Memtest86 is good for more thorough validation. WMD better when you’re troubleshooting a fault (if it doesn’t show in two passes, it probably won’t cause faults), memtest86 for verifying something like RAM timings or an overclock.
How does HCI compare to bootable MemTest86?
You cannot compare HCI and bootable memtest since they, sort-of, are entirely different. Memtest86 is great if you want to test your computers memory for function, say if you just got new modules and want to test them. This is usually the first thing I do when I upgrade.
How well does mdsched compare to memtest?
msched runs at pre boot, but well it probably has a larger footprint, question is does it have good enough diagnostics. Ah. I see. Probably pretty good, but I have no clue.
