Are Alveopora Hardy?
Second, Alveopora may be a hardier specimen than Goniopora. Goniopora for ages have developed a poor track record for survival. There are about 20 or so species of Goniopora and some are actually quite hardy, but for years there are varieties frequently imported that did not fare well.
Is Alveopora easy to keep?
Some say that they are relatively easy to keep given the right water parameters and tank placement, while others say that it is a coral that only more advanced hobbyists should attempt to take care of.
How do you care for Alveopora?
Alveopora can thrive in a wide range of lighting, depending on species. High lighting is not recommended. We recommend 100-150 PAR. Alveopora corals prefer moderate water movement so their polyps can move freely.
How do Alveopora grow?
Alveopora tissue does not typically spread and encrust to other mediums but rather grows by skeletal growth like many other lps. I believe there are branching varieties though. Think of it like an Euphyllia, this coral needs new skeletal structure to increase in size.
Can you dip Alveopora?
Active Member. Yes I bought it Wednesday night and it was fully opened with nice color. I dipped it coral rx for about 15 minutes.
How long does it take for Alveopora to open?
Yes, mine took a few days to open up. After about 2 weeks, it opened up fully. I have mine located about mid level of the tank.
How fast do Goniopora grow?
1 mm a month
Once the tissue reaches the plug or rock encrusting growth can be as quick as 1 mm a month. The next step in Goniopora propagation (and for all corals for that matter) is sexual reproduction in captivity.
How do you take care of Hammer coral?
Hammer corals do best with a low-to-moderate amount of water flow. Enough to carry fresh, oxygenated water to the polyps without blowing them into their skeleton. Try to replicate a gentle breeze with the current.
Are Goniopora hard to keep?
Goniopora are a very difficult coral to keep alive and are not recommended for a novice reef aquarium hobbyist. The short, greenish-colored species are less sturdy and durable than the pink or purple species.
Does coral dip remove algae?
The main use we have for this dip is hair algae removal and it works brilliantly on soft corals and in particular zoas. The dose we use is 10ml of 9% peroxide per litre of water, leave the coral for 5-10 minutes, and the algae should start vigorously bubbling.
How do you keep Goniopora healthy?
Goniopora can thrive in a wide range of lighting. We have kept Goniopora in different lighting intensities here at Tidal Gardens ranging from very dimly lit 50 PAR tanks all the way to bright aquariums receiving over 200 PAR. I would recommend placing them under moderate lighting intensities, between 75-125 PAR.
How long do hammer corals live?
There is not much data available about the lifespan of the hammer coral (Euphyllia ancora), though it is estimated to be more than 10 years. The generation length of this species is thought to be 10 years, which is the average number of years between two consecutive generations of a species.
What is Alveopora?
Alveopora is a large polyp stony coral that has a beautiful flower-like appearance. They aren’t the most rare coral by any stretch, but it is far more common to see their close relative Goniopora. Like Goniopora flower pots, Alveopora don’t have the best reputation for survival however that reputation may or may not be deserved.
Is Alveopora spongiosa a stony coral?
Alveopora spongiosa. Alveopora is a genus of colonial stony corals in the family Acroporidae. Members of this genus are native to the Indo-Pacific region and are often found on reef slopes in turbid water. They are generally uncommon.
Do Alveopora corals like water movement?
Alveopora corals prefer moderate water movement so their polyps can move freely. However, it should not be directed right at the polyps or the movement might be too vigorous and could damage the flesh of the coral. One of my favorite things about Alveopora is the beautiful movement they can add to your reef tank with their billowing polyps.
How do Alveopora grow so fast?
Alveopora are not a super fast growing coral compared to some fast growing SPS, but for a large polyp stony coral, they are pretty fast. In that sense, they rely on a steady uptake of these major elements to keep growing. I’ve made separate videos about each of these chemical parameters that are worth checking out.
