Does a metal pickguard affect tone?
Aluminum pickguards are the best solution for reducing single coil hum and other irritating and un-wanted noises coming from your electric guitar’s pickups and circuit. Reason Number 1: Metal pickguards and control plates have the effect of reducing interference in your tone circuit.

Shielding a pickguard will not have any effect on the pickup. You are basically wrapping the pickup’s perimeter with a 0.003″ thick or so sheet of conductive material. You might as well have just wrapped a ground wire around the perimeter of the covers for all the good it’s going to do you.

- Step 4 Remove the Knobs.
- Step 5 Remove the Selector Switch Cap.
- Once the cap and knobs have been removed, you may begin removing the screws around the perimeter of the pickguard.
