Beyerdynamic’s 990 Pro needs an amp to drive these headphones properly. Unfortunately unlike the DT770 Pro, there is no version that runs without an amp but these deliver great performance.
Are DT 990 PRO worth it?
Our Verdict. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro are excellent neutral listing headphones. They reproduce a lot of detail in high-resolution tracks and have a clear and crisp sound quality with a spacious soundstage.
How do I match my headphones to my amp?
A match means ‘complimentary’ not ‘equal’. Pairing a headphone with an impedance of 2.5-8 times higher than the source impedance should yield good results. This recommended ratio is commonly known as the ‘rule of eighths’ and contributes to proper driver control (damping factor).
Are dt990 pros good?
Should I get a dt990 STX or a 250 ohm dt990?
The 250ohm would be more appropriate, as it can at least power in some regard from most sources. You could get a Fiio E10 ($60) now with a 250ohm DT990 and skip the STX all together. Headphones on a Speaker Amp Thread (Going on 9 Years!) The different ohms are grossly over exaggerated here. I would suggest you get what you will be able to run.
Is the dt990 a good entry level headphone?
They’re fantastic headphones. People just wanna call them entry level because they didn’t like the bass and treble oriented sound. Not everyone wants neutrality or rolled off treble. Damn trolls. If the treble is bothersome, they respond well to a treble reduction. There is no other fault in the DT990 at all, if you consider it a fault (I don’t).
What is the difference between dt990 consumer edition and Professional Edition?
DT990 Professional Edition: many transient and treble details are more defined while the transitions into the mid-range are even smoother. The bass details are tighter, deeper, but still somewhat heavy. Not bloated like the Consumer Edition (this is how it was labeled in Germany where my DT990 came from) but still somewhat heavy.
What is the difference between a 250 ohm and 600 Ohm headphone?
Sonically, the differences are minimal and probably not even discernable of the headphone itself, but more the amplifiers being used for them. The 250ohm and 600ohm are the same headphone with a different impedance rating, nothing more. The point is simply to match the right impedance with an appropriate amp.
