Over curing the base coat, when applying multiple coats, may result in poor adhesion and flaking. Under curing can result in the base coating remaining soft or tacky. If applying stencils, the stencil may peel-up the base finish upon removal.

Can you make Cerakote shiny?
The ONLY way to fix it is to sand blast it off and do it again. We Cerakote about 25 guns every day at the shop. You CANNOT TOUCH UP CERAKOTE EVER. Too much Hardener also makes it to glossy!
Why is my Cerakote rough?
Dry spray has a rough, sandpaper like appearance and is typically caused from poor solvent transfer during application. Cerakote should always have a smooth slick finish after product has been fully cured. During the application process it is very important to “Wet Out” the coating to avoid any possible dry spray.
How thick can Cerakote be applied?
Two of the most popular brands, Cerakote and DuraCoat, both recommend around 1 Mil thickness. You can get away with higher (1.5 mil) or lower (0.25 Mil) thicknesses but the goal is typically to shoot for around 1 Mil. As mentioned above, tight tolerances don’t always allow for 1 Mil, and you may be forced to drop down.
