Can you tile tongue and groove?
It is possible to tile directly onto tongue and groove wooden floors, but the high amounts of deflection/movement will mean that an ultra-flexible (S2) tile adhesive is required.
Which is cheaper ceramic or porcelain tile?
While both ceramic and porcelain are less expensive than most renovation materials, their price differences are due to their density differences. Porcelain tiles are therefore more expensive than ceramic tiles.
Does wood look ceramic tile need grout?
Most wood look floor tile requires a 1/8 or 3/16” grout joint. That’s a pretty narrow grout joint. And it’s very important. Without that joint, the tile won’t be able to adjust to minuscule movements in the subfloor and you’ll end up with breakage, lippage, or an uneven surface.
Can you lay ceramic tiles on a chipboard floor?
If your floor doesn’t have excessive movement, you may tile directly onto the floor using Granfix Ultimateflex. This very flexible adhesive will stick to chipboard and will absorb the floor’s movements. The reason we warn about floors with excessive movement is the simple fact that tiles don’t flex!

You can tile over your wooden subfloors or old hardwood floor. However, it is important that you follow the same rules as you would for any other suitable installation. If your hardwood floor is level and in good condition, it is possible to install tiles over the surface.

In short, a layer of ‘board’ over your floorboards will keep the surface you’re tiling strong and sturdy, and help you minimise any movement from your old floorboards.
