Is BIS required?
The BIS certification for products is voluntary. However, the Government of India has made it mandatory for certain products considering public health. As per the government notification, 380 products are mandatorily required to obtain the BIS certification.
Is BIS mandatory for export?
For compliance, all exporters/manufacturers of such products are required to register with, and obtain certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards, before exporting such goods to India. These products generally must be tested and certified by BIS in India.
What is BIS label?
BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 have been notified and labelling and marking requirements are covered under para 6 of Scheme II of Schedule II of the regulations. BIS license holders under Scheme II are required to ensure compliance to these requirements.
For which product BIS is mandatory?
All models and brands of Electronic Musical Systems with Input Power of 200W and above are classified under IS 616 and are required to get BIS Registration before its launch or import into the Indian market.
Can we use BIS logo?
BIS Logo must be put on every registered product & packaging after getting the BIS Registration Number of that particular product (model). The logo should be non-washable and non-removable. It is better to put it either by embossing or printing.

What is BIS and agmark?
The state enforced certification marks presently in India are (alphabetical list): Agmark for all agricultural products. BIS hallmark: certifies the purity of gold jewellery. Ecomark is an ecolabel for various products issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Is ISI and BIS same?

The ISI is later taking over by the BIS. However the term “ISI mark” continues to be used for the quality standards.
