As far as I know, gods aren’t supposed to go hollow, or at least not until they lose their purpose (as evidenced by Gwyndolin whose purpose was to watch over Anal Londo). Gwyn looked like hollow in DS1, but that’s likely the burns from the First Flame.

That means that while the games are very similar in their worlds, ideas and gameplay, there’s no story link between them.
