The IV injection of midazolam should be given slowly at a rate of approximately 1mg in 30 seconds. In adults below the age of 60 the initial dose is 2 to 2.5mg given 5 to 10 minutes before the beginning of the procedure. Further doses of 1mg may be given as necessary.
