I finally did find information in a specification sheet from GROHE, indicating this cartridge 1/2 inch R, 45 882 000 was the correct cartridge. It would seem that Grohe makes this cartridge in two different types, one for a hot water (or hot water side) and another for cold water.

This one was in fact for the hot water which is what I needed. It turns out that in my case the handle of my faucet just pulls or taps off as there are no fasteners of any kind to hold it on.
