How do I raise the KH in my saltwater tank?
How to raise KH in a reef tank. To raise KH add KH buffer to the tank water. Test first, add some buffer, then test again. Don’t raise the KH by more than 1 in a day, and keep a log of your dosing so that you know the KH consumption of your tank.
Are Red Sea Test Kits good?
The red sea kits are decent IMO. The “equipment” is very nice, and come with the convenient titration vial holder thingy that works pretty well. And as stated its nice to be able to get refills instead of buying a whole new kit. As far as testing they could be better.
Does adding calcium lower alkalinity?
If, for example, you add too much of a calcium supplement, you will drive down alkalinity as you get precipitation of calcium carbonate in the tank. Likewise, adding too much of an alkalinity supplement can result in reduction of calcium.
How do you stabilize pH in a reef tank?
One way to help stabilize the reef tank pH is to turn your refugium’s light on opposite your aquarium’s light. This way, the macro algae in the refugium will begin to absorb CO2 during the photosynthetic process. This will help increase reef tank pH at night and help keep the pH stable.
Does Nopox need to be refrigerated?
This system is designed to maintain maximum coral coloration, growth and health. Start by dosing 1 drops per 25 gallons (net water volume) twice weekly. Refrigerate after opening.
Does Red Sea AB+ raise nitrates?
Yes. Red Sea A and B can increase nitrate if it breaks down in the tank. Any food or amino acid supplement can increase nitrate.
What is the proper KH for a reef tank?
between 8 & 12
The ideal KH value for a marine aquarium is between 8 & 12 (3 – 5 meq/l). A low KH can be easily be corrected by adding Seachem Reef Carbonate or Reef Builder. More frequent water changes will help, but most synthetic marine salts only yield a KH of around 8.
What is the reef care program?
The Reef Care Program (“RCP”) is the result of years of research into the physiological demands of SPS, LPS and soft corals in reef aquariums. The program explains how to be proactive and control all issues such as nuisance algae, coral growth and even color.

What are the reef foundation elements and why do they matter?
These three reef foundation elements have a major effect on the water chemistry (pH stability, alkalinity and seawater ionic strength) and on many of the coral’s biological processes (skeleton formation, ions exchange, and photosynthesis).
