Who were the original 99s?
The organization was founded November 2, 1929, at Curtiss Field, Valley Stream, Long Island, New York. All 117 women pilots at the time were invited to assemble for mutual support, the advancement of aviation and to create a central office to keep files on women in aviation.
Do the 99s still exist?
Founded in 1929, the Ninety-Nines has 155 chapters across the globe as of 2018, including a ‘virtual’ chapter, Ambassador 99s, which meets online for those who are too busy or mobile to be in one region for long.
