The New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) is designed to annually assess the English language proficiency of all English Language Learners (ELLs) / Multilingual Learners (MLLs) enrolled in Grades K–12.

The written portion of the test is administered over three separate days. In Kindergarten, it is estimated that the written portion will take students between 90 to 105 minutes to complete. In grades 1 through 12, it is estimated that the written portion could take students between 105 and 165 minutes to complete.

If your school has not received students’ NYSESLAT score data, please contact the Regional Information Center (RIC) or Large-City Scanning Center, as applicable. Questions concerning score data may also be directed to the Office of Information and Reporting Services at 518-474-7965 or DataSupport.
What languages are the NYS Regents offered in?
NYSED includes a suggested date for the Checkpoint A and B exams on the official NYS Regents Exam Schedule for June 2022. 4+1 Pathway exams in world languages are now available in 7 languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, and Spanish.
When should I take Nysitell?
With the exception of Level I, the NYSITELL should be administered during the month of June only to students entering school for the remainder of the current school year and/or students enrolling in a summer school program.
How do I order Nysitell?
All regular and large-type editions of the NYSITELL must be requested through the Department’s online examination request system. Telephone requests will not be accepted. The Department will accept and enter online, on the school’s behalf, only requests that are submitted by fax for the braille edition of the NYSITELL.
