Whitetail Ski Resort While Liberty may be closer to DC, Whitetail has more of a big-mountain feel. The vertical drop is some 300 feet higher, at 935 feet. A high-speed lift zooms intermediate skiers to the top in minutes; the expert terrain has a dedicated lift.

Is liberty or Roundtop better?
Roundtop basically has no “extreme” terrain, they might have one run that is just a sheet of ice at the top to challenge you. Liberty has a few more advancedish runs, but again nothing too gnarly, I’d mainly just ski around looking for little side hits there.

Is Roundtop better than whitetail?
Whitetail is more spread out, if not more often busier. The terrain at Whitetail seems like it will still call you back; but do give Roundtop a shot. It’s enough of a difference.

- Take I-270 N to I-70 W.
- Take the Clear Spring, MD Exit 18, then bear right.
- Go straight through the traffic light in Clear Spring.
- At the island, turn right onto Broadfording Road.
- Follow Broadfording Road 1/2 mile, turn left onto Blairs Valley Road.
- Continue 5 miles on Blairs Valley Road to Whitetail.
