Why was the Geisel Library built?
1995. In recognition of a substantial gift from Audrey Geisel, the University Library was renamed Geisel Library in honor of Audrey and her late husband Theodor Seuss Geisel (“Dr. Seuss”) for their commitment to promoting literacy and education.

It is true that the middle name of Theodor Geisel — “Seuss,” which was also his mother’s maiden name — was pronounced “Zoice” by the family, and by Theodor Geisel himself.
