What oil do you use for kwila decking?
For a natural, oiled finish use Resene Furniture and Decking Oil. To enhance and retain the natural colour of Kwila and other hardwoods use Resene Kwila Timber Stain. Allow for a second application after 3-4 months.
Does kwila need oiling?
Kwila furniture doesn’t require oiling for durability purposes, but if you want to permanently leave your furniture outdoors, it will weather if it is not oiled, turning a silvery grey colour over time.

What do you seal Kwila with?
We recommend to use Timber Sealer after the bleeding to waterproof the bottom of the legs of chairs and tables to stop any tannin seeping out.
How can we protect kwila?
Kwila decking should be kept dry and out of the weather until installation. On site each pack should be kept off the ground by at least 100mm by placing it on bearers and covered to protect from sun and rain. Free air circulation under the decking is very important to help minimise cupping and warping for any timber.
Should I stain or oil my kwila deck?
If your deck is Kwila, for example, you may want to use an oil to preserve its deep red-brown hue. Wood stains add colour. So if you want to enhance your timber with a new colour, or if your deck is very weathered, a stain could be the way forward.
