What is a manometer HVAC?
A manometer is a device used to measure the pressure exerted in a fluid column, the fluid can also be a gas. In fact, in the HVAC world we are usually measuring gas pressure.
What does a manometer look like?
In its simplest form the manometer is a U-tube about half filled with liquid. With both ends of the tube open, the liquid is at the same height in each leg.
When would you use a manometer?
The manometer is so often used to measure pressure that the difference in column heights is also a common unit. This is expressed in inches or centimeters of water or mercury at a specific temperature, which can be changed to standard units of pressure with a conversion table.
What does the height h difference indicate?
The difference in height “h” which is the sum of the readings above and below the half way point, indicates the pressure in inches of water column.
