Biffa’s In-Vessel Composting facilities convert garden waste into compost and soil conditioners that are used to restore landfill sites. Garden waste is diverted from landfill, which naturally benefits the environment and can help lift local recycling rates.
What does BIFFA do with general waste?
At present, general waste is processed and sent for incineration in the UK, Germany or Holland. The heat generated by burning the waste is used to turn water into steam to power turbines, which generate electricity. Also the hot water is pumped around the local areas to heat factories and homes.

Biffa Waste Services has been officially taken over by private equity group WasteAcquisitionco Limited in a deal worth £1.2 billion. The company announced this morning that the acquisition was completed today in accordance with terms agreed on February 8 (see letsrecycle.com story).
