What is the difference between stretched canvas and canvas board?
Canvas panels are much thinner than stretched canvases. There’s not much variety in the thickness of canvas panels. They’re usually about 1/8″ thick while stretched canvases are available in a variety of thicknesses. The thinness of canvas panels makes them very convenient for painting outdoors.

How much does it cost to get canvas framed and stretched?
Your cost can range anywhere from $8-$20 per linear foot ($50-$150 per print), depending upon the size of the image and the thickness of the stretcher bar you choose. You will also have the inconvenience of a time delay, as it may take several days before your stretched prints are ready to pick up.
Do you draw on canvas before painting?
Most painters will do at least a rough sketch on the canvas before painting. This helps to get the proportions and position of things right before you start painting. You can use a pencil, charcoal, pastels or even thinned paint with a smaller brush just to get the idea of an outline.
Is store bought canvas already primed?
Answer: When you buy a stretched canvas from a store, it’s usually already primed, so you don’t need to apply any extra gesso.
Do you need to prime a store bought canvas?
The answer actually depends on the canvas that you purchase. Most, if not all, canvases that you buy at your typical craft stores are already primed for acrylic painting. If the canvas is a bright white color, it’s ready to go! I don’t prime my canvases because I buy them pre-primed.
