Is Yamaha DX7 analog?
One of the most popular digital synths ever was the DX7 from Yamaha, released in 1983. It featured a whole new type of synthesis called FM (Frequency Modulation). It certainly is not analog and it is difficult to program but can result in some excellent sounds!

I would strongly advice against using a MK1 DX7 as a controller for several reasons. Age and reliability would be one. And as much as I require DIN midi, especially for live stuff, I would really suggest you get a modern USB controller for best results. Technology is light years ahead of early 80’s technology.
