What does a turbo vane position sensor do?
The Turbo Vane Position Sensor is what allows your diesels ECU/ECM unit to properly control the variable geometry turbo vanes on your turbo.
Where is the MAP sensor on a 2007 Duramax?
and the LBZ reads to 40 something. The MAP sensor is in the intake manifold attached to the driverside head. The MAF sensor is in the intake after the filter.
How do I fix my Duramax P2563 code?
Replacement Options
- Pull the vane sensor and clean it along with the wiring (requires this special removal tool)
- Pull the turbocharger and clean the internal components like the unison ring.
- Run scan tests and VGT Learn tests to determine what is at fault.
- Replace the sensor or the turbo (depending on which is at fault)
Do you have to calibrate a turbo actuator?
It is important to note that most electronically controlled VGT actuators will need to be calibrated once removed or replaced.
Why does my Duramax engine have low power?
This sensor is a common weak point on the Duramax engines. When it fails the engine computer is no longer able to keep track of the position of the variable geometry turbo. Depending on which position the turbo vanes are stuck in, you may experience low power either at the low or high end of the RPM range.
What are the most common engine codes for a Duramax?
P2563 and P003A are common engine codes amongst 2004.5 to 2016 Duramax turbo engines which us variable geometry Garrett turbochargers. While not covered in my post, this tends to be a most common problem for LLY Duramax’s compared to later years. What does the Vane Control Position Sensor do?
How does the vane position sensor work on a VGT?
The vane position sensor relays a signal to the ECM which then sends a signal to the VGT actuator telling it what position the vanes should be in. When this sensor fails, the ECM provides incorrect signals to the solenoid, which creates turbo issues and therefore performance issues.
Why are my variable vanes stuck in one position?
Another common problem is that the variable vanes could also be physically stuck in one position. Please note that due to a GM design change, 2004.5 – 2005 LLY models will require a wire harness adapter to plug this sensor into your original harness. The wiring harness adapter is included with each sensor sold.
