What is Nvidia Bumblebee?
Bumblebee is an effort to make NVIDIA Optimus enabled laptops work in GNU/Linux systems. Such feature involves two graphics cards with two different power consumption profiles plugged in a layered way sharing a single framebuffer.
What is Bbswitch?
bbswitch is a kernel module which automatically detects the required ACPI calls for two kinds of Optimus laptops. It has been verified to work with “real” Optimus and “legacy” Optimus laptops (at least, that is how I call them).

To install bbswitch run:
- sudo apt install bbswitch-dkms. Copy.
- sudo nano /etc/modules # Append bbswitch i915. Copy.
- # Create new file sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/bbswitch.conf # And add options bbswitch load_state=0. Copy.
- sudo update-initramfs -u -k all. Copy.
How do you set up a bumble bee?
Install and configure Bumblebee in Ubuntu 16.04 or 16.10 / Linux Mint 18. x
- Install Nvidia Prime and set it to “intel”
- Install Bumblebee.
- Blacklist the the Nvidia driver you’re using by adding it to /etc/modprobe.d/bumblebee.conf (bit via AskUbuntu)
- Configure Bumblebee.
- Reboot.

Where should I place Bumblebee house?
To maximise the chances of your bee nest box being occupied, careful siting is important.
- Position your nest box in full sunshine so facing south east or south.
- Place the nest box at least 1 metre from the ground.
