Who does British Legion help?
The Royal British Legion is here to help members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families. And we’re not going anywhere. Our support starts after one day of service and continues through life, long after service is over.

Membership is open to everyone, you don’t have to be a serving or ex-Service person. We welcome men and women of all ages, whether they have served in the Armed Forces or not.

Who runs RBLI?
The Royal British Legion is honoured to have Her Majesty the Queen as our Patron. While having royal patronage from its founding in 1921, the Legion received its “Royal” appellation in 1971 on its golden anniversary. Our National President is Lt General James Bashall CB, CBE appointed in May 2019.
Can you wear a hat in the Legion?
Our Hat Mandate Many Canadian households observe this custom and the Legions are no different. So when you come to the Legion, we kindly suggest that you remove your hat if possible. If for some reason you wish to wear it, please feel free to do so and make it known to your server or management.
What do you need to join the Legion?
The organization belongs to the people it serves and the communities in which it thrives. If you have served at least one day of active military duty since December 7, 1941 and were honorably discharged or you are still serving active military duty honorably, you are eligible for membership with The American Legion.
