Are Sabre DACs good?
ESS SABRE 8-Channel DACs They offer outstanding performance courtesy of ESS’s patented 32-bit HyperStream architecture and deliver an exceptional DNR of up to 135dB and THD+N of -120dB. These DACs can be found in leading audiophile products from companies like Audiolab, Macintosh, Onkyo, SimAudio and more.
Do high end DACs make a difference?
TL;DR Rather loosely, a better DAC more accurately performs the conversion. Whether an expensive DAC provides an audible quality difference is debatable/subjective, but it’s not likely to make a difference, unless you specifically want a DAC that “colors”/distorts the sound. A DAC is a Digital to Analog Converter.
Who makes ESS Sabre chips?
ESS Technology, Inc.
ESS Technology, Inc. Historically, ESS Technology was most famous for their line of their Audiodrive chips for audio cards. Now they are known for their line of Sabre DAC and ADC products.
Is ESS owned by Oakley?
Headquartered in Hailey, Idaho, ESS is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oakley, Inc.
Is the es9038q2m compatible with SABRE DACs?
There are a couple of good links here, to ESS Technology, briefly explaining the differences between their SABRE DAC chips, with links to more info about individual chips. Oddly, although it’s mentioned in a 2016 press release, the ES9038Q2M doesn’t seem to feature.
Is the ESS 9018 a good DAC?
That said, my DAC with the ESS 9018 is really, really good-it does take very dialed implementation (especially power supplies) to get the best out of the ESS 9018-but when done right, it has a lot to offer.
How does the 9038pro compare to the 9018k2m?
All things being equal, the 9038PRO should outperform the 9018K2M, but once you start changing the configuration of the DACs things get a bit more fuzzy. When we first compared the Burr-Brown DAC we were using to the ES9016 we implemented in the QB-9, the Burr-Brown hands down beat the ESS DAC straight out of the box, so to speak.
What is the ESS 9018 output stage for?
This output stage presents a less than 1 ohm load to the ESS 9018, and this low loading allows the ESS output to operate in current mode, resulting in the best possible performance. The above illustrates that there is a lot more to making a DAC perform really well than chip selection.
