Are microwave trim kits interchangeable?

How do you convert a countertop microwave to built in?
To convert a countertop microwave for use in a built-in application, there must be an optional built-in trim kit available for use with the specific model. There are built-in trim kits for use in a 27″ or 30″ wide cabinet installation.
How do you remove a microwave trim kit?
Insert a screwdriver behind the trim kit at the bottom. Pry it out slightly. Insert the screwdriver at the top and pry it out slightly. When the kit becomes loose, pull it off the cabinet with both hands.
Can you make any microwave a built-in?
It is possible to install a countertop microwave in a built-in microwave hole, but you must do so carefully, as these two types of microwaves have different venting systems.
Can you make a freestanding microwave built-in?
Not all microwaves can be built-in as they are available in either freestanding or built-in models. We recommend that you install built-in microwaves into a cabinet, but if you do wish to install a freestanding model as a built-in we have built-in trim kits that allow you to do so.
Can you put a countertop microwave in a cabinet?
A microwave oven, designed exclusively for a kitchen countertop, has vents that are built into the back of the microwave. If installed into a cabinet, these vents will be blocked and unable to release steam from the microwave.
Can you use an OTR microwave as a built-in?
You can install an over-the-range microwave above a wall oven. However, it depends on the manufacturer. Before you jump into the installation, consult the manufacturer’s instructions. Over-the-range microwaves are not the same as built-in microwaves, so it’s important to double check the owner’s manual.
Does a built in microwave need a vent?
Adequate ventilation, especially if the microwave is built into a wall of cabinetry, is a must.
