Is housing guaranteed at CMU?
At Carnegie Mellon, first-year students are required to live on campus. We guarantee housing for students for four undergraduate years (as long as they continuously live in university housing). Students who remain in university housing will participate in Room Selection.

Single rooms are extremely popular, limited in availability, and are thus hard to come by. While we have added single rooms to our inventory through the new residence hall opening at Fifth and Clyde House, single rooms generally fill up quickly.
How is the food at CMU?
Most of the food is quite mediocre. The Exchange, Au Bon Pain, and the coffeeplaces on campus are pretty good. In the UC, Schatz has its good and bad days, and Gallo is decent. The rest of the UC food is not great.

As a freshman, you can choose a traditional residence life experience or join a Living Learning Community and live among fellow CMU Chippewas with similar academic interests, goals or achievements. Our residency policy requires first and second-year students live on campus (see exceptions ).
