How far can you span C purlins?
Normally a spacing of C purlin is around 900mm (0.9m), 1200mm (1.2m) and 1500mm (1.5m). This can be spaced 1.2 metres apart when using sheeting with a thickness of 0.7mm, and 1 metre when using 0.5mm sheeting.
How far can metal purlins span?
A four-inch purlin can span 12 feet. A six-inch purlin can span 18 feet. An eight-inch purlin can span 25 feet. A ten-inch purlin can span 30 feet.
How far apart do you put purlins?
The maximum distance between purlins is five (5) feet on center. If your building site is in a region that is prone to heavy snow loads or high winds, then we may place your purlins closer together for added strength.

Can C purlins be lapped?
PURLIN SIZES AND PROPERTIES Purlins without pre-punched holes may also be available by contacting Steeline. C sections have equally sized top and bottom flanges and are suitable for simply supported spans and continuous spans. Continuous spans have less deflection than single spans. C sections cannot be lapped.

What is the maximum roof slope for purlin load tables?
Purlin load tables are valid up to and including 25° roof slopes. For slopes greater than 25 °, use our MetSPEC design software. You can download our MetSPEC 14 software from the list below. Download our purlin technical manual for more information.
