How do you teach blend ladders?
Use a pencil or other pointer to guide your child’s eyes to the vowels. You are teaching that vowels are the most important part of the word by saying them first. Go down the ladder through all five vowel sounds. If your child needs to take it a little slower just focus on one sound for the whole day.
How do you learn to blend words?
Tip #1: Focus on phonological awareness first.
- Recognize the alphabet letters.
- Remember to read the sounds left-to-right.
- Recall and say the sounds quickly enough so as not to distract from the blending.
- Remember all 3+ sounds in order to blend them together and read the complete word.
