What is libtiff?
Included in this software distribution is a library, libtiff, for reading and writing TIFF, a small collection of tools for doing simple manipulations of TIFF images on UNIX systems, and documentation on the library and tools. A small assortment of TIFF-related software for UNIX that has been contributed by others is also included.
Does libtiff know which TIFF version an opened file is?
(Whilst on additional option is provided for version selection when creating new files, no such option is necessary when reading TIFF files. LibTiff reads ClassicTIFF and BigTIFF both, and the application does not need to be aware which TIFF version an opened file is.)
What happened to libtiff source repository?
The libtiff source repository is changed from CVS to Git and the master libtiff source repository is now at Gitlab. This is the first release to be made from the new Git repository.
Why does libtiff take so long to read 65535 directory entries?
The libtiff directory reader has a failsafe that will break out of this loop after reading 65535 directory entries, but it will continue processing, consuming time and resources to process what is essentially a bogus TIFFdocument.
How to add support for building a shared library using libtiff?
This support is split between rules in the file libtiff/Makefile.in that construct the shared library and checks done by the configure script to verify that the expected rules are supported by compilation tools for the target system. To add new support for building a shared library both these files must be updated.
How do I configure the TIFF software?
The TIFF software comes with several packages that are installed only as needed, or only if specifically configured at the time the configure script is run. Packages can be configured in a config.site or config.local file, or by using a -with- option when invoking configure; e.g. configure -with-AFM .
Is it possible to make the TIFF library a shared object?
It is desirable to make the TIFF library be a shared object on systems that have support for shared libraries. Unfortunately the rules to use to build a shared library vary between operating systems and even compilers. The distributed software includes support for building a shared version of the library on a number of different systems.
What is TIFF library in C?
Using The TIFF Library. libtiff is a set of C functions (a library) that support the manipulation of TIFF image files. The library requires an ANSI C compilation environment for building and presumes an ANSI C environment for use. libtiff provides interfaces to image data at several layers of abstraction (and cost).
How to read low-level data from a TIFF file?
Alternatively a direct interface to the low-level data is provided a la strips. Tiles can be read with TIFFReadEncodedTileor TIFFReadRawTile, and written with TIFFWriteEncodedTileor TIFFWriteRawTile.
