Hydrogel dressings are in many respects ideal for wound dressings. When applied to dry wounds, as well as sloughing or necrotic wounds, they can make and keep them clean by promoting the removal of infected or necrotic tissue via autolysis. Hydrogel dressings keep the wound warm, moist, and close.

This conformable material can absorb a large amount of wound fluid, such as exudate with bacteria.
What is Aqua Cell dressing?
Aquacel® Hydrofiber dressing (ConvaTec, Princeton, NJ, USA) is a moisture-retention dressing that consists of soft non-woven sodium carboxymethylcellulose fibers which forms a gel on contact with wound fluid. The gel promotes a moist wound-healing environment yet retains wound exudates by vertical absorption.
When should a hydrocolloid dressing be used?
Hydrocolloids are chosen for their ability to rehydrate necrotic tissue and slough as they facilitate autolytic debridement. They are designed for wounds with light-to- moderately heavy exudate levels (Casey, 2000) and can also be used on granulating wounds.

How To Apply Hydrogel Dressings
- Wash your hands very thoroughly.
- Remove the dressing from it’s packaging.
- Slowly peel off the backing of the dressing and lay the dressing over the wound or burn.
- Use a fixing tape or other bandage to wrap and hold the dressing in place.
