What does John Radcliffe Hospital specialize in?
It is Oxfordshire’s main accident and emergency site and provides acute medical and surgical services, trauma and intensive care.
Can I have epidural in midwife led unit?
Alongside birth centres are on the same sites as hospital labour wards. That means you can be transferred easily if you do want an epidural (Which?, 2018). If you’re not in an alongside unit, you can be transferred from any midwife-led unit or birth centre to hospital for an epidural too.

What is the Jonn Radcliffe Hospital Women’s centre like?
At the Jonn Radcliffe Hospital Women’s Centre there is a comfortable waiting area and a small children’s play area. A refreshment bar is run by the League of Friends. Outpatients are seen when referred by community midwives, GPs or other hospital departments.
Can I Park at the maternity Assessment Unit?
Parking is limited and you will have to pay, so please be prepared for this. On arrival please go to the Maternity Assessment Unit (MAU). There are toilets and vending machines in the main corridor. We encourage you to bring some light snacks and isotonic drinks. If we send you to Delivery Suite from MAU, we will show you into a birth room.
Who is on the medical team at the birth centre?
Our medical team includes a range of obstetric and anaesthetic doctors and medical students, who are based on the Delivery Suite, and some neonatologists for babies who need extra assessment and support at birth. We have 15 birth rooms, one with a pool, and three have en-suite bathrooms. All rooms are close to toilets and showers.
